Buyable Collector Exhibition “Collectors’ Collective Vol.2”
Following Vol.1 held from December 2019 to January 2020, the second edition of the buyable collector exhibition “Collectors’ Collective Vol.2” (nicknamed the “CoreCore” show) has been announced.
As with the previous edition, the venue is “MEDEL GALLERY SHU” on the 2nd floor of Imperial Hotel Plaza.

The exhibition is a collection show by notable art collectors who continue to shape the art market — actively engaging with artists and fellow collectors through social media and real-world gatherings.
What sets it apart from typical collector shows is that it is a “buyable exhibition.” Rather than simply displaying the collectors’ holdings and taste, it doubles as an opportunity to actually purchase new works by popular artists — a truly rare format for an art collector show.

Participating Collectors
The three art collectors involved in “Collectors’ Collective Vol.2” are as follows.
Collector Profiles
- Hiroshi Kamei (Instagram @ishitsubutehiroshi)
Began purchasing artworks in his first year as a working adult. Around ten years of collecting experience.
He owns approximately 60 works, centered on pieces with a critical edge or those that reflect physicality or spirituality. He does not confine himself to any medium — painting, drawing, sculpture — and gravitates toward strong originality.
Recently he has been increasingly acquiring works by young artists with a new-generation sensibility, both from Japan and abroad. Last year he launched an activity producing audio-guide services for galleries, allowing visitors to hear commentary from the artists themselves via smartphone, and is now interested in exploring how the appeal of contemporary art can be broadened further. - Takafumi Kumano / Kumano Art bot (Twitter @kumaaaart)
A general office worker in his early thirties. About one and a half years of collecting.
He mainly collects works by young artists of his own generation.
By skillfully leveraging credit-card installment payments, he has purchased anything that catches his eye without much restraint — building a collection at a pace exceeding 30 works per year. However, his intuitive, decide-on-the-spot approach is offset by a lack of planning that leaves him wrestling with subsequent payments. Recently, hoping to define the direction of his collection, he is restraining himself and slowing down purchases. He originally majored in aesthetics and art studies at university and has always loved art. The trigger for collecting was buying a home and beginning to search for pictures to hang on his walls. - Takuya Kurosawa / Kurosawa (Twitter @mujina1985 )
A contemporary art collector. Four years of collecting.
His creed is to visit the front lines with his own feet — he tours university art shows and alternative spaces alike, and shares information on Twitter.
In 2019 he attended approximately 600 exhibitions. His 2019 acquisitions totaled around 15 works.
He focuses on two-dimensional works by young artists. His goal is to leave behind a collection that will hold value for the future.
Exhibition Program
“Collectors’ Collective Vol.2” is composed of two projects.
The first exhibits “works collected” by the three art collectors, alongside new works by the featured artists shown and offered for sale at the same time.
The second invites artists each collector wants to “recommend for 2020” to exhibit and sell new works. *Contrary to the flow of the program’s spirit, the three collectors and other organizers have no right of first purchase.
The participating artists are as follows.
