I visited Rui Yamagata’s solo exhibition “ATLAS.”

She presented an impressive display at the Tokyo University of the Arts undergraduate graduation exhibition in January 2020.

The title of this solo exhibition, “Atlas,” generally means “book of maps,” while at the same time being the name of the god Atlas from Greek mythology who holds up the earth.

Rui Yamagata, whose practice focuses on themes of the “body” and “skin,” connected these motifs with the Atlas (map) in this exhibition as well.

Though the solo exhibition ran for just six days, the space was overflowing with energy.
