Yukimasa Ida’s First Domestic Book “Crystallization”

“Crystallization,” a monograph by Yukimasa Ida — the young contemporary artist drawing attention both in Japan and abroad — will be published by Bijutsu Shuppan-sha on Tuesday, June 2, 2020. *His first monograph published in Japan.

The overarching concept Yukimasa Ida has consistently pursued in his work is “ichigo ichie” (once in a lifetime).
“I want to record — through my own filter — ‘now,’ this moment we will never meet again, and the phenomena of living encounter,” he says. The book showcases the wide range of his practice, including portraits, abstractions, and sculpture, and features a fold-out reproduction of an unreleased large-scale work, “The Miniature Garden — A Creative Allegory,” measuring over ten meters.

The book includes approximately 150 works across a total of 284 pages.

Special Edition Limited to 200 Copies

In addition to the standard edition, the monograph offers a special edition limited to 200 copies.

The special edition is a startling volume in which a portion of a 2.9 × 6.4 meter oil painting created by Yukimasa Ida himself serves as the cover. The painting is divided into 200 pieces, and each piece is bound as the cover of a copy of the book — a specification in which the artwork itself literally becomes a book.
