Bone-in Chicken “Ikkaku”

Kagawa Prefecture is famous nationwide as the “Udon Prefecture,” with Sanuki udon as its signature dish. But another local specialty gaining attention is “bone-in chicken” (honetsuki-dori). Have you heard of it?
And when it comes to bone-in chicken, the go-to name is “Ikkaku,” founded in 1952 in Marugame City.

The restaurant we visited this time was Ikkaku’s Takamatsu branch. It is remarkably close to the Takamatsu Art Museum — only a 1-to-2-minute walk away.

Bone-in chicken is a dish in which a whole chicken thigh, still on the bone, is seasoned with a house-special spice mix and slowly grilled to perfection.

You wash down big, piping-hot bites with an ice-cold beer.
There are two varieties of bone-in chicken: the chewy, deeply savory oyadori (adult bird) and the tender, juicy hinadori (young bird). We visited as a party of two, so of course we ordered both.

Oyadori — pre-cut into bite-sized pieces so it is easier to chew.

We came away thoroughly satisfied.
Oyadori and hinadori are essentially two completely different dishes — you will want to try both!

If you are visiting the Takamatsu Art Museum, this is a restaurant we heartily recommend that you drop by.
