OKETA COLLECTION “A NEW DECADE”
We visited “OKETA COLLECTION: A NEW DECADE,” an art collection exhibition by Shunji and Seiko Oketa, one of the so-called big collector couples.
The venue was Spiral Garden in Omotesando.

Following on from the previous year, the Oketa couple’s collection exhibition is again open to the public at the same venue.
As always, the show centers on major works by internationally renowned artists. Many of the pieces on view have been acquired recently, giving visitors a sense of the current currents in the art scene.
For coverage of the 2019 collection exhibition, please see the article below.

As with the previous edition, it was enjoyable to sense the direction of the collection through big-name Japanese artists such as Kusama and Gokita, as well as artists associated with NANZUKA gallery.
That said, it is a collection exhibition whose scale feels like another world—hardly something the average collector could relate to as their own.
Many visitors may become interested in art through this show, but I couldn’t help thinking it would be even better if there were an angle that could encourage ordinary people to start collecting art themselves.
I look forward to next year’s collection exhibition as well.
