Fumika Tsuchitori “Bone and Skin (Light a Fire / I Must Come Back with Roses)”

We visited Fumika Tsuchitori’s first solo exhibition, “Bone and Skin (Light a Fire / I Must Come Back with Roses).”
The venue was WAITINGROOM, a gallery in Edogawabashi.

This show marked Fumika Tsuchitori’s first solo exhibition.
At the graduation exhibition held at Kyoto University of the Arts, she received the Graduate School Prize. For a report on that event, see the link below.

Collectors began placing orders at the point when the work list was released ahead of the show, and it seems that all pieces were sold out within about 30 minutes of the list being made public.

For gallery exhibitions, the work list is sometimes released before the opening and advance sales reservations may begin.

The works presented by Ms. Tsuchitori in this exhibition consisted of two series: “I and You,” depicting two figures, and “a scene,” which extracts elements such as color and form from landscapes.

The works are characterized by motifs that shift between figuration and abstraction, and by the expressive mixing of oil paint and spray paint.
An exhibition at Art Award Tokyo Marunouchi (AATM) is also scheduled, meaning that opportunities to see her work in Tokyo will overlap (AATM dates: September 10 – September 25, 2020).

We were able to be present at the moment when another young artist takes flight into a much larger world.
