Backside works. “Chapter #Ginza”
I visited Backside works.’ solo exhibition “Chapter #Ginza.” The venue is SH ART PROJECT, a gallery in Ginza.
The statement for the solo exhibition reads as follows.
Backside works.
I want to paint the heroine of the protagonist (you). That is all.
In childhood, I taped up magazine clippings and pull-outs of my favorite heroes and heroines from movies and anime on the walls of my room, letting my imagination run wild.
I want you, now as an adult, to reclaim those feelings.
She may not exist in reality.
Yet she surely does exist.
It is with such thoughts that I paint VALIANT GIRL.
The exhibition centers on the VALIANT GIRL series, which takes young women as its motif.
The materials are listed as acrylic and canvas, yet the picture surface is unusual in that no brushwork is visible.
It was almost impossible to distinguish the acrylic paintings from the silkscreen works.
The DADA blue silkscreen was distributed by lottery: against an edition of 30, it reportedly drew 18,375 applications from Japan and abroad.
Amid the graffiti-style art scene led by KYNE, Backside works. is drawing attention as one of the movement’s most spirited artists.
