Yukimasa Ida × nana-nana “RE:STANDARD”
A charity collaboration was unveiled between nana-nana — the fashion brand known for its PVC bags — and artist Yukimasa Ida.
Titled “RE:STANDARD,” the project runs as a limited-run engagement combining made-to-order sales via the online shop with a pop-up store.

nana-nana is based in Tokyo (MID TOWN PROJECT) and Los Angeles (Rike international), running events and production around the world.
We hold dear — and consider it only natural — the principle of “working alongside those we find compelling, regardless of race or gender.” As the Black Lives Matter movement grows, we thought, “We want to help create an environment in Japan too where people can raise their voices against discrimination — and turn this into a lasting occasion for reflection rather than a passing moment.” When we did, Yukimasa Ida was the first person who came to mind.
Convinced that “no one but him — an artist who works globally and paints powerful, uncompromising work without flattery — could carry this message to the world together with us,” we proposed the collaboration.Yukimasa Ida
As a contemporary artist, I have worked in many places around the world. I believe an artist is a mirror to the world, and that art and expression lie in how one poses questions after understanding the shifts of today’s world and society. Yet at the base of it all, there must be hope.
Asking myself what social contribution I could make in an age like this, I decided to lend what little strength I have to this donation project. If my work can bring some change to the world — and above all offer even a small aid to the Black community, which right now is exposed to racial discrimination — then so much the better.
Wishing for a world in which people can live with dignity regardless of their circumstances, nationality, skin color, or eye color, I sincerely hope, as one artist, one parent, one human being, and a friend to you all, that the injustices spreading through the world will be reduced, if only a little.
Pop-up store on the 1st floor of Isetan Shinjuku
As part of this project, the sale of collaboration items was accompanied by an exhibition of the original artwork used for the design. I visited Isetan Shinjuku, the venue, to cover the show.
The totes and T-shirts each use a different printing method. TOTE uses offset printing while T-SHIRT uses heat-transfer printing, which made the color tones look slightly different.

The original painting from which the collaboration design was taken was exhibited in tandem with the pop-up store on the 1st floor of Isetan Shinjuku.
All profits from the sale of the collaboration items will be donated to charity. The three recipient organizations are Black Lives Matter, IMADR, and UN Free & Equal.
