Tomoo Gokita “MOO”
I visited Tomoo Gokita’s solo exhibition “MOO.”
The venue is Taka Ishii Gallery in Roppongi complex665.
This exhibition brings together only color works, which is unusual for Tomoo Gokita.
The color pieces were reportedly first presented at an exhibition held in Italy in March of this year.
Until now, Gokita’s works have drawn inspiration from vintage foreign magazines, printed matter, and photographs.
The works presented this time depart from that approach: without any external source reference, they arrive at their present form through the interplay of remembered images, the accumulated experience of his past practice, and forms born by chance.
Rendered in soft tones and a distinctive color palette, the varied pictorial subjects show a free, buoyant expression and rich texture, giving a clear glimpse of the artist’s further evolution.

While overturning his familiar imagery, the works still felt unmistakably his own.
The exhibition revealed high ambition through his commitment to constantly taking on new challenges.
