Kanami Ohbuchi “Ghost Practice”
I visited Kanami Ohbuchi’s solo exhibition “Ghost Practice.”
The venue is GALLERY b. TOKYO.
Kanami Ohbuchi is an artist currently enrolled in the Oil Painting research area of the graduate school at Tama Art University.
Her creative concept, which focuses on the relationship between the frame and the painting, is deeply compelling.
When considering the relationship between the frame and the painting,
the treatment of the frame is regarded as “necessary, yet non-existent.”
In Japanese art exhibitions, frames are required in the exhibition space,
but in catalogues they are neatly cropped out and deemed unnecessary.
From this state of affairs, I have chosen to liken the frame to a fictional presence called a “ghost.”In this exhibition, with the “ghost” as the theme,
I present works that reconstruct the relationship between frame and painting.

It was an exhibition that was truly enjoyable to see.
I found myself keenly interested in what the artist’s next variation of motifs might bring.
