Ricardo Gonzalez “Memories of spring”
We visited “Memories of spring,” a solo exhibition by Mexico-born, New York-based graphic designer Ricardo Gonzalez.
The venue was hpgrp GALLERY TOKYO in Omotesando.
This is his first solo show at this gallery in about a year.

Ricardo Gonzalez is a street-based artist known for his work in lettering, typography, calligraphy, and typeface design.
The works in this exhibition, as the title suggests, were created based on the colors of photographs he took in Japan during spring using a disposable camera, and on the images those photos evoked in him. All the works depict specific fleeting memories and moments when he sensed the simple beauty of life.
In this show, the impression was that many works had letters — legible only in the faintest way — pushed even further into abstraction, leaning more toward contemporary art.
The works titled 《Untitled》 famously bear the phrase “it’s a living.”
Prices were still very reasonable: 140,000 yen for 61cm×61cm and 400,000 yen for 120cm×120cm (excluding tax).
