Ryo Kawada “Self-portrait”
I visited Ryo Kawada’s solo exhibition “Self-portrait.” The venue is Bambinart Gallery.

This is his first solo exhibition in some time, following the one held at Bambinart Gallery about two and a half years ago.

It seems that the works sold out on the first day.
Despite the exhibition being titled “Self-portrait,” the artist’s subjects consistently had everything above the neck excluded from the composition, and in many works the facial expressions were concealed as if hidden beneath white powder.
Although the artist possesses formidable technical skill, by restraining fine descriptive detail he seemed to generate a distinctive atmosphere that pervades the entire work.
