Toshiyuki Konishi “Internal Criteria”
We visited Toshiyuki Konishi’s solo exhibition “Internal Criteria.” The venue is ANOMALY.

The painter Toshiyuki Konishi continues to depict people through a distinctive approach — referring to private records such as group photos and snapshots of his own family and close acquaintances, and boldly stripping away detail with expansive, unhesitating strokes.

His first solo show in about three years, the exhibition featured approximately 20 new paintings and around 20 works on paper.

The display method of standing canvases freestanding on the floor was a fascinating approach.
Whether in the small works or the larger ones, Konishi’s use of color is deeply compelling, and we couldn’t take our eyes off them.
