Lary’s List
A marketing company for contemporary art collectors based in Hong Kong, Lary’s List.
The art collector database it holds features profiles of over 3,500 art collectors gathered from more than 70 countries.
In February 2021, the company released a report targeting art collectors aged 40 and under「The Next Gen Art Collectors 2021」. By posting the Instagram accounts of the collectors featured in this article, we let you check each one’s art collection and introduce a glimpse of the world of art collecting they each uniquely enjoy.

Survey Report
We excerpt part of the comments touching on the selection results of the 150 chosen this time (partial excerpt).
- Looking at the overall collector scene so far, New York, London, Seoul, Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong are major hubs for the next generation of collectors.
- In Asia, particularly China, Korea, and Indonesia, the momentum of young collectors was evident.
- While no young collectors specializing in digital art or multimedia were seen, painting and sculpture remain favored media to collect.
- Along with a new generation of collectors, a new generation of artists is also emerging.
- The next generation of collectors are very quick to make their tastes, interests, and ultimately their collections accessible to a wider public. Often this is through digital sharing, but it also includes open spaces and museums, and in Asia especially it is done through open spaces.。
- Collecting is one way of engaging with the art scene. In many cases, it is carried out together with curatorial projects and artist-in-residence programs.。
- While some of these young collectors continue collecting across generations, many begin collecting without any family history of it.。
- Collectors have always maintained dynamic collections by constantly upgrading, restructuring, or shifting their focus. This is neither new nor special for younger collectors. What is new is that today’s collectors’ activities are more transparent than before.
- While there are regionally popular artists, there are also quite a few with global appeal, especially for millennial collectors. In particular, many such artists are active in digital spaces and on social media.
- Collecting art has a strong lifestyle element.
