Kohei Nawa “MOMENT”
We visited Kohei Nawa’s solo exhibition “MOMENT.”
The venue is SCAI PARK (Tennozu).
On the advice of owner Ishii of TAKA ISHII GALLERY, Nawa began presenting photographic works. This exhibition featured the new photography series “Moment Photography.”
Nawa travels back and forth between his studio in Kyoto and Tokyo on average twice a week.
Taking the body of the Shinkansen — which he actually uses as his means of transport — as the motif, the exhibition centers on monochrome photographs.
Shot from a high-speed moving point, the images are stretched unidirectionally, captured as a succession of moments in which the substance of the subject is lost.
Exhibited alongside was Kohei Nawa’s signature series PixCell-Camera.
It is said that Nawa purchased the same type of PENTAX camera he had previously used at an auction.
Also on view in the back room was the new PixCell-Photography series.
This is a new development of the PixCell series, in which film photographs Kohei Nawa took during his study abroad in Europe are covered with beads.
Focusing on portrait photographs of a young Kohei Nawa taken in London, the motifs also include the Goetheanum and surrounding plants photographed during his visit to Switzerland.
