LISTE – Art Fair Basel

“LISTE – Art Fair Basel” is an international art fair that primarily introduces young and emerging contemporary artists. Founded in Basel, Switzerland in 1996, it takes place every year in conjunction with Art Basel.

LISTE particularly supports galleries dealing with innovative and experimental works, focusing on new talents and the next generation of leaders in the art world. It is considered an important international platform for young artists and their galleries.

Basel’s art fair week begins on Monday. Basel Unlimited opens at 4pm, Liste at 11am, and June art fair at 1pm, so the 11am opening of Liste was very crowded.
What is wonderful about Liste is that it is held at the same venue as Basel—Messe Basel, Hall 1.1. Messe Basel, Hall 1.0 (1st floor) hosts Art Basel’s Unlimited. Also, as it is the earliest fair of the day, it is enveloped in a lively atmosphere as a place where visitors can communicate with one another.

Tickets to Liste could be accessed with a Basel VIP ticket (I wonder if general tickets grant entry?).

I enjoyed it immensely as an art fair as well.
Since most booths are composed of solos and duos, the displays are easy to view and it is easy to strike up conversations with the gallerists. The exhibiting artists are mostly around 30 years old, and while the works are naturally diverse, I felt that the presentations were staged in a way that expresses the latest movements.
