APERTURA Madrid Gallery Weekend
I attended APERTURA Madrid Gallery Weekend, held every September.
This event is organized by Madrid’s gallery association and marks the start of the new season, coinciding with the beginning of the new gallery year.
Most of the participating galleries aligned their exhibition opening dates on “September 12,” with opening parties taking place across the city.
The Arte Madrid app introduces gallery maps and recommended routes by district, making it very accessible for first-time visitors.

Many galleries in Madrid are street-level storefronts, with entrances and doors that are open and welcoming to visitors.
The gallerists were also open and warm — many happily struck up conversations and gave detailed explanations of the works, offering a genuinely welcoming atmosphere.
Even big-name artists were often present at the galleries, and there were many opportunities to have questions politely answered.
