During the second week of April 2025, when the Salone del Mobile was held, we took part in Milan Design Week.
This article introduces one of the standout brands from the many on show.
bomma “Fragments Reborn”
At Euroluce, the lighting section of the Salone del Mobile that is held every two years in odd-numbered years, the Czech lighting brand bomma commanded an overwhelming presence. Inside a deep-crimson booth titled “Fragments Reborn” hung countless hand-blown glass pendant lights. Suspended as if dripping from the ceiling, the pieces glowed like a swarm of sculptures — art objects that lured visitors into an extraordinary world.
The new work “Fragments Reborn” features glass with mineral-like facets that reflect light in multiple directions, creating a complex, dreamlike expression within the space. The nuances of light shifting with the viewing angle evoke an organic quality akin to a natural phenomenon, functioning as an installation that also draws in the movement of visitors.
Although founded only in 2012, BOMMA bridges craft and architectural minimalism by fusing the Czech tradition of Bohemian glass with cutting-edge processing technology. Every component is hand-blown in the brand’s own workshop, and while these are lighting fixtures, each piece attains the finish of a work of fine art.
The exhibition strongly conveyed the possibility that lighting can move beyond mere spatial decoration to become a leading element — the very protagonist — of a place. Not part of the interior, but light as art. BOMMA presented that clear vision in a beautifully persuasive form.
