Dan Isomura “LOVE NOW”
I visited Dan Isomura’s solo exhibition “LOVE NOW.”
The venue is the gallery EUKARYOTE in Gaienmae.
Engaging with foreign cultures and social issues — his ties with Nepalese communities, an exhibition at the Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts in Taiwan, an artist residency at a “Hell Temple” in Thailand — Isomura offers his own interpretations and raises questions through works made on the theme of love.
Weaving past pieces together with new work, the exhibition felt like a culmination of his recent activities.

Throughout the run of the solo exhibition, an on-site production residency was underway on the rooftop.
Within a contemporary society where diverse ways of living and being coexist, the LOVE-filled world that Dan Isomura expresses feels to me like an “affirmation of, and empathy with, diversity.”
Rather than a single, linear arrow pointing one way — as in the “ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE” of a bygone era — this felt like art expressed through the approach of a preacher living amid an age of complexly entangled values.
